Renowned pro-wrestling journalist Bill Apter has compared CM Punk’s debut for AEW to the support Hulk Hogan enjoyed throughout his career.

Over seven years after leaving WWE, Punk joined AEW last August and has lost just one match since joining the company.

Declaring Punk’s return the ‘Moment of the Year’ at the Sportskeeda Wrestling Awards, Apter praised the former WWE Champion, saying:

“I have never seen a reaction like that. It’s been ages…it was almost like… I don’t know if you want to call it a Hogan-esque type of moment with all the fans just chanting and chanting his name. It really gave me goosebumps. I was happy to see it for the fans and I was happy to see it for him. I don’t think he expected that.”

Punk will face MJF at next weekend’s AEW Revolution event in a Dog Collar match.
