WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long has explained that he learned his iconic catchphrase from comedian Dave Chapelle.
Long has held several roles in wrestling, including as a referee, manager and General Manager of SmackDown.
Speaking to Sportskeeda, Long recalled seeing one of Chapelle’s shows.
“I was looking at Dave Chappelle one night, and there was a guy on Dave Chappelle, and they was talking [sic] to him and he just kept saying ‘Holla, holla, holla, holla.’ So, it was kind of hilarious to me so I just said ‘Let me take this to TV.’ So that’s how holla, holla happened.”
Long was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017 in a class including Kurt Angle, Beth Phoenix, Diamond Dallas Page, the Rock ‘n Roll Express, and Ravishing Rick Rude.
