A new WWE Radio concept has been launched, featuring several podcasts as part of its service. WWE Hall of Famer and AEW veteran Jim Ross recently shared his thoughts on the new podcast service.
Speaking on his “Grilling JR” podcast, Ross claimed he’s curious to see how WWE Radio works out. The veteran said,
“We’ll see how it works out. It’s like this week—WWE Radio. I’m curious to see how that’s going to progress. I haven’t experienced it or sampled it enough to give you an honest opinion. But I’ve heard little snippets and it’s an interesting process, to say the least.”
“You know, I came up with the idea to do a WWE radio show back in the day. Monsoon and I were the hosts and all that good stuff. So my point is, I believe pro wrestling and radio are very compatible. If you know what you’re doing, you can make the broadcast very intriguing and very interesting.”
“I think it’s par for the course, Conrad, to be honest with you. I’m anxious to see how it evolves, how it develops. Like I said, I’m a big proponent of the concept of pro wrestling and radio.”
“I wish my AEW would get a little love out of that whole… those topics and those outlets. It seems like sometimes, as I said before, they’re overlooked. There’s too much talent at AEW. They’re doing too many good things in the ring to not be acknowledged. That’s my take on that deal.”
WWE Commentator On Ross’ Heel Turn
Appearing on Stephanie McMahon’s “What’s Your Story?” podcast, Michael Cole stated that JR’s heel run in 1999 was the worst storyline. The WWE commentator said,
“I thought it was the worst storyline ever attempted in this company, trying to turn Jim Ross heel. Especially with this little 30-year-old, 150-pound punk with a mullet and a cheesy mustache, wearing skinny jeans with frosted tips in my hair. They really thought they were going to make Jim Ross heel.”
“Jim tried to buy into it. I tried to buy into it. He kicked me in the down low, which he really hit me that night, and that started this whole mini storyline.”
“I was thrown into this situation where I’m calling Monday Night RAW in 1998 with about six months of experience under my belt. What the hell am I doing here? There were so many times that I thought I was going to leave the company because I didn’t think I was going to be able to pull it off.”
“When I started in the business, Kevin Dunn told me it’s going to take you 10 years to get comfortable in this role. I’m like, 10 years? Come on. I’m a network news reporter. I’ve won all kinds of stuff around the world, journalism awards. Ten years to do this? It took 10 years, folks, and I’m still learning today.”
