Ricky Saints Wins NXT North American Championship, Beats Ethan Page’s Record

Lots of action on the NXT North American Championship scene on this week’s episode of NXT, as not only did Stephanie Vaquer relinquish her NXT Women’s North American Championship, but we also have a new Men’s North American Champion crowned after the main event of this episode.

Champion Shawn Spears had his entire faction of The Culling by his side to help him cheat, but even the combined efforts of Brooks Jensen, Izzi Dame, and Niko Vance weren’t enough to offset the challenger, Ricky Saints, from overcoming the odds and becoming the new champion, even after Spears nailed him in the face with the title belt.

By doing so, Saints has broken Ethan Page’s record for the quickest person to win a title after debuting with the brand by roughly a week according to Vic Joseph. Page had won the NXT Championship just 40 days after his debut, breaking a record that had stood for nearly 10 years by Kevin Owens, who defeated Sami Zayn to win the NXT Championship at TakeOver: Rival just 60 days after his debut.

Of course, angry at the situation, Ethan Page immediately attacked Ricky Saints, not giving him more than a moment to celebrate his title win.

What this means for Shawn Spears and The Culling going forward after such a quick loss remains to be seen, too, but there’s a chance Page, if not also Spears, could be in the running to challenge Saints for the title soon—possibly even at WWE Stand & Deliver on April 19th. Nothing has been announced in any capacity for that show.

For now, what do you think about Saints winning a title so quickly after signing with WWE? Is it the right call, or is it too soon? Drop your thoughts and other reactions in the comments below!
