Some of you may recall an incident that took place between Vince McMahon and his son Shane at the 2022 WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event, which resulted in the latter being sent home by his father.

For those unaware of what went down, Shane McMahon was “let go” for what was described at the time as ‘unprofessional’ behavior as he was helping to produce the men’s Royal Rumble match. Multiple sources reported that Shane wanted to enter the men’s ‘Rumble in a way that gave him the spotlight. One source said Shane insisted that he was “highlighted” during the bout and made a big fuss about it backstage. This rubbed Vince McMahon, Brock Lesnar, and several others the wrong way.

According to a new report from Fightful, it was Vince McMahon who personally made the decision to remove Shane from any involvement with WWE after the pay-per-view event. One source said Vince had an “extreme but justified” level of frustration with his son at the time. At one point, Vince directly told someone in his inner circle that Shane “would never get another pop in this company as long as I’m around.” The person said Vince lashed out in “the heat of the moment” and that likely wouldn’t have been the case as time went on.

It was said that one big “end of the line” point for Shane was when he had to give in to Lesnar’s satisfaction with the situation. Obviously, Shane is a “McMahon” so having to bow out to a talent that isn’t directly related to him or his family didn’t sit well with him. As you’d expect, that was a humiliating moment for him.

Finally, it was noted that several people who have closely worked with Vince over the years have now been more open to discussing past situations following his retirement.
