Goldberg’s long-awaited retirement match is expected to take place later this year — and early indications point to it being a strategic counter-programming move.

In a recent interview, the WWE Hall of Famer confirmed that his final match will happen “in the South.” Fightful Select is reporting that sources close to the situation suggest that Atlanta, Georgia, is the frontrunner to host the event/match. The location would be a sentimental choice for Goldberg, who played college football at the University of Georgia and briefly played in the NFL for the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta has remained a central part of his personal and professional identity.

WWE is reportedly planning to hold a Saturday Night’s Main Event special on Saturday, July 12 — just weeks after its return tomorrow night. Internally, Goldberg’s retirement match is being targeted for that night, which notably coincides with AEW’s All In 2025 pay-per-view event at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, the company’s biggest event of the year.

Though nothing is official yet, Goldberg’s participation in the July 12 special is said to be a major topic of discussion behind the scenes.
