Sammy Guevara’s AEW status has become the subject of speculation after a subtle change to his social media profile left fans wondering if something is happening behind the scenes.
On July 19, Guevara posted a brief message on Twitter that simply read, “new bio.” Fans quickly noticed that his updated profile no longer referenced AEW. Instead, his bio now reads, “World Champion, Husband, Father & Professional Wrestler.”
The change immediately fueled rumors, though there has been no official indication that Guevara has left the company or requested his release.
According to a report from Bryan Alvarez, there is uncertainty within AEW itself about the situation. He said,
“Nobody in AEW seems to know what’s up with Sammy Guevara right now. Multiple sources told me that Tay Melo requested a release last year but it was denied. It’s expected we will know what’s up when everyone gets to TV tomorrow.”
AEW returns with Dynamite from Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday before the company heads to Montreal for AEW Redemption this Sunday.
Once viewed as one of AEW’s original “Four Pillars,” Guevara has appeared only sporadically on AEW programming in recent years, dividing his time between AEW and Ring of Honor.
Despite the reduced television presence, he has still received notable opportunities in 2026, including a challenge for the AEW World Championship during Darby Allin’s title reign.
Most recently, Guevara and The Beast Mortos lost the ROH World Tag Team Championships to Místico and Máscara Dorada at a CMLL event in late June.
Speaking with MuscleManMalcolm before the recent speculation began, Guevara admitted that his limited appearances are out of his hands. He said,
“Honestly, man, that’s obviously not my call. But whenever they do decide to call — I think the last time I was on AEW was when I wrestled Darby [Allin] for the World Title. I was given a couple hours notice, and I just tried to do the best that I could, you know? And so anytime I go out there, I try to give you a show like you’ve never seen before. Because that’s what I do. I’m Sammy Guevara, ‘The Spanish God.’ You know, I think I’m the best, so, yeah.”
