Paul Heyman’s MIA, How Would You Bring Back The Wise Man? | Question Of The Day

Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

Friday Night SmackDown ended with Roman Reigns attempting to call up Paul Heyman, only for the number to be out of service. The Wise Man remains M.I.A. to the point that even The Original Tribal Chief can’t get in touch with him.

My question for you today is “Where would you take this story next, and how would you eventually bring The Wise Man back into the fold?”

Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.

As far as my answer…

This redemption arc for Roman is about him acknowledging (pun intended) his mistakes. He has to own up to how much of a jerk he was. So far, even though he has some people backing him up, he’s still yet to fully apologize in any fashion. Saying “yeet” and then getting all upset and bossing around The Usos isn’t an apology. Sami Zayn hasn’t been truly apologized to, either. They all just keep sort of standing next to each other and fighting alongside one another, but not having any cathartic moment.

I said before that I don’t think adding Seth Rollins into this is a good step, and I still maintain that opinion. I’ll tack onto that how I don’t think Paul Heyman is the ultimate endgame of the apology section of this angle, either. If anything between the two, Rollins makes more sense to go after Heyman.

Let me be clear in saying that I don’t think what I’m about to say is how WWE will do it. Frankly, I’m expecting WWE to not have a way to book this that makes a lot of sense. It wouldn’t shock me if Heyman just simply pops up and there’s no explanation whatsoever.

Depending on what they have in store for WarGames, I can see a lot of potential scenarios playing out. I still think the smart play is to have The Rock come out and help Solo Sikoa’s team win, mind you. Heyman shouldn’t be involved in that, and at this point, I think it’s best to keep him away a little while longer until at least after WarGames. Have Heyman make his return after The Rock, so the momentum can shift a little back and forth and those two can have a promo-off at some point in early 2025.

If WWE wants to keep it as simple as possible, I’d have Heyman only show up after Reigns apologizes to everyone in a more distinct manner. Maybe that can be after they lose at WarGames, where they’re all feeling down, and Roman can rally the troops by saying he wasn’t an effective leader because he’s not fully embraced changing his ways. Then, Heyman can appear the next week, saying that as The Wise Man, he knew he needed to let Reigns figure that out on his own and that it wouldn’t have been the right type of growth had he advised him to do that. Reigns needed to reach that conclusion genuinely. Now that he has, Heyman can return by his side to help him fight off those bastards, and he’ll start making some phone calls. Then, we can start to see the difference between The Rock using his influence from the TKO Board of Directors versus Heyman playing some behind-the-scenes games as well, leading to different matches and setups being booked over the course of January through April and The Road to WrestleMania 41.

If WWE absolutely has to have Heyman back before Survivor Series, then since Raw’s already been taped, they need to rush it entirely on next Friday’s episode. I can’t see any way to do that without it feeling like a silly do-nothing stall.

What could be interesting, though…and I wouldn’t go in this direction, but it could set up something odd…would be if CM Punk were involved in all this. Reigns tries calling up Heyman, but the number is disconnected. Jey Uso or someone approaches Punk and asks him if he knows what’s up. Punk does them a favor and gets them in contact with Heyman, revealing that he’s been still in touch with him all this time. Then, that can plant some seeds in the future for a sort of “Why did you stay in touch with Punk, but went off the grid for me?” story. The only way that would work, though, is if WWE were planning to have Punk and Reigns feud in 2025 with Heyman turning on Reigns and teaming with Punk again, who would turn heel. I can’t see any way that everyone stays babyface in the long run for something like that.

The Bloodline Saga has had some interesting twists and turns, and I’m hoping I’m dead wrong when I say that I think this is just going to ultimately be a situation where Heyman just shows up and that’s that. At this particular moment, I don’t know what I would do to bring him back for all the specifics, but I’d probably lean toward the apology aspect of it being part of it, as that’s something yet to be fully resolved.
