More On AEW’s Recent Backstage Drama

CM Punk once again finds himself at the center of the wrestling discourse, and backstage drama among some of AEW’s top tier stars could be the reason why.

It’s been reported recently about Punk expressing issues with AEW and how some believed that the Second City Saint might no-show Dynamite this past week due to legitimate backstage heat. The real-life Phil Brooks took issue with Hangman Page in his show-opening promo, which allegedly went off-script and was not a planned part of the show. It’s been rumored that the issues between Punk and Page go all the way back to some of the promo content in the build to their match at Full Gear 2021.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Page was backstage when Punk went into business for himself, and knew nothing about it, just like everyone else. Everyone seemed to be confused backstage about what Punk was doing. It wasn’t an angle at the time, though it’s been speculated that it could become one at a later date.

The larger story is that there is said to be a lot of “backstage drama” involving “many of the top guys” in AEW. The situation is said to be worse than usual in recent weeks. It’s said that several people are close to their “breaking point” if things aren’t resolved soon.

One of the big issues that started the drama is that Colt Cabana was almost cut from the company and was instead moved to ROH. There are reportedly “different stories” about why that happened, “including Page and Punk.”
