Jeff Jarrett – ‘The Last Thing I Wanted To Do Was Join WCW’

Jeff Jarrett may have left WWE and joined WCW in 1999, but Double-J never intended for this to happen, according to the WWE Hall of Famer.

On a recent edition of his “My World” podcast, Jarrett discussed leaving WWE during the height of the company’s Attitude Era success. He said,

“The last thing I wanted to do Conrad was go to WCW. I mean, it literally was, ‘No, that is not a good idea’… I’ve reached out, and I’m waiting to hear back, And they came back, and the money was much better, and guaranteed and paid house shows — all that kind of stuff. But that contract all could have gone for naught with one conversation with Jim [Ross.]”

Jarrett left, believing he would never reach the top of WWE. In WCW he was a multi-time World Champion during the company’s final years.

Jarrett’s WWE contract infamously ended before the No Mercy 1999 pay-per-view event where he was supposed to lose the Intercontinental Title to Chyna.

The legend is that Jarrett held Vince McMahon for money, demanding a reported $300,000 to wrestle after his contract to lose the title.

This would backfire for Jarrett who was blacklisted for years from WWE and was fired on-camera by McMahon following his purchase of WCW in 2001.
