Mick Foley joined AEW’s broadcast ahead of AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2026 to talk about his late friend Owen Hart. Foley said the two met in 1991 and bonded as fathers and husbands, not just wrestlers.
He called the Owen Hart Foundation Cup a wonderful way to keep Owen’s memory alive. Foley said,
“Owen Hart was one of my best friends. We hit it off the moment I met him backstage at a tri-state wrestling show in 1991. We started traveling, we had a lot of things in common. We were both legendarily frugal on the road, and there’s even a somewhat publicized contest between me and Owen to see who could go farther on a $20 bill.”
“Our bond was not made because of what we shared in the ring, it was what we shared as friends and fathers, and husbands. As great as he was in the ring, he was even better outside of it. One of the best men I ever met in my life.”
“What an amazing way to honor Owen’s memory, to have the Owen Hart Foundation Cup…I know how much it means to the AEW wrestlers, to etch their names in history alongside the name of Owen Hart, it doesn’t get much better than that.”
Mercedes Mone won the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament for the second year in a row at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2026 in San Jose. She defeated Maya World in the final after forcing her to tap out to her own hold. Mone now gets an AEW Women’s World Championship match at All In: London 2026 in August.
After the win, Mone went on a posting spree on Twitter, laughing at Maya World, telling Willow Nightingale to be quiet, warning AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla, and even tagging Dave Meltzer in the celebration.
In one of the biggest moments at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2026, Andrade El Idolo turned on MJF during the main event Steel Cage match. Andrade hit MJF with a Dia de los Muertos, then revealed a shirt opposing both MJF and Don Callis.
Team Briscoe, which included Mark Briscoe, Kyle O’Reilly, Roderick Strong, Orange Cassidy, Konosuke Takeshita, and Darby Allin, ultimately won the match. The victory earned Mark Briscoe an AEW World Title shot.
