Fightful Select has shared details about the Will Ospreay vs. Swerve Strickland match for the AEW World Championship, held earlier this year at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024.

As you may know, Ospreay reportedly suggested putting over Strickland in their matchup, aiming to show that the former WWE Superstar wasn’t just a placeholder champion and to stress the significance of the AEW World Title.

The latest report reveals that another match was considered for the pay-per-view event.

NJPW sources have indicated that Yota Tsuji was a potential opponent to challenge Strickland for the AEW World Title at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024. This matchup was reportedly in development before AEW decided to go with Ospreay.

It remains unclear if Tsuji was ever informed about this plan, although he did compete during the Zero Hour pre-show.
