Big Wardrobe Malfunction At AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2026

The 2026 AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view event featured an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction during the finals of the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

Mercedes Moné faced Maya World in the tournament final, with Moné looking to win the tournament for a second straight year. World entered the tournament as a replacement competitor but put together an impressive Cinderella run to reach the championship match.

Early in the contest, the front of Maya World’s ring gear came loose, forcing her to adjust it repeatedly throughout the match. Although she was wearing protective gear underneath, the malfunction clearly affected her movement and comfort. Later in the bout, her wig also became dislodged, adding to the challenges she faced.

Despite the setbacks, World refused to let the mishaps derail her performance. The AEW crowd rallied behind the underdog as she continued to battle one of the company’s biggest stars. Moné also showed professionalism throughout the match, subtly helping her opponent preserve her coverage on multiple occasions, including while applying her Statement Maker submission.

With her victory, Mercedes Moné captured the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament for the second consecutive year and earned a title match against AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla at AEW All In 2026.

Following the match, the commentary team praised Maya World’s determination and composure under difficult circumstances. Excalibur specifically commended her for battling through the wardrobe issues while still delivering a standout performance.
