Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!
The last two Round 1 matches in this year’s King & Queen of the Ring tournaments will take place tonight on WWE Monday Night Raw. The women’s Fatal 4-Way will consist of Asuka, Ivy Nile, Stephanie Vaquer, and Raquel Rodriguez. The men’s will be Jey Uso, Sheamus, Rusev, and Big Bronson Reed.
My question for you today is “Who do you think will win those matches to round out the brackets and set up the semifinals?”
Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.
As far as my answer…
I didn’t necessarily think they would go with Sami Zayn against Randy Orton, so now, I’m assuming they’ll do the same kind of setup for the other side. Cody Rhodes won the SmackDown top right section, so Jey Uso makes the most sense now to win this match. Two sets of babyface guys who could all feasibly challenge for John Cena or Gunther makes a lot more sense to keep fans on their toes than if someone like Rusev won this, as he’s clearly not going to beat both Rhodes and Zayn/Orton to go on to fight a heel at SummerSlam. I’m curious how they’ll beat one of Uso/Rhodes without making it a situation where a heel gets involved, as neither should win the match through cheating.
On the women’s side, I was thinking Charlotte Flair would win rather than Alexa Bliss. That also throws off my predictions. I can’t see Bliss winning the semifinals AND the finals, but if she’s somehow up against Raquel or Ivy (doubt it), she could get to the finals. More so, I think we’re looking at Vaquer or Asuka, and since Asuka’s making her return, and Vaquer can lose without taking a pin, I’m looking at The Empress of Tomorrow scoring a pin on Nile to win while Vaquer is just out of the mix for a moment and Rodriguez could be tied up arguing with someone who was interfering—maybe Kairi Sane, since she could be helping out Asuka.
Bonus question, how are you feeling about this tournament so far? I don’t love the Fatal 4-Way ideas all that much compared to doing a normal seeded bracket, but I’m glad they’re at least going in this direction instead of having merely semifinals and shortening everything. There have been a few surprises, so I like that, too. Ultimately, I care more about what they’re setting up for SummerSlam, so I can’t give this a thumbs up or a thumbs down until I see who wins both crowns and how they utilize them going forward, but I don’t love the idea that these are effectively just No. 1 contender tournaments where it feels like the king and queen aspect will be thrown out immediately. Give me more King Booker and less “I’m the King of the Ring, Gunther, but I’m not wearing this, so I’m the same exact presentation I was a week ago.”
