Jeff Cobb made his WWE debut at Backlash: St. Louis two weeks ago, and his ring name has now been changed to JC Mateo.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Cobb’s ring name was originally supposed to be JC Mantanza, a reference to his time in Lucha Underground as Mantanza Cueto.
It’s unclear who owns the moniker Mantanza, considering AAA was only an investor in Lucha Underground, not the owner.
Notably, WWE did not purchase the Lucha Underground footage or intellectual property when it acquired AAA.
Meanwhile, Cobb reportedly dislikes his new WWE ring name.
