Baron Corbin made his shocking return to WWE on the July 10, 2026, episode of SmackDown. The Lone Wolf directly inserted himself into the United States Title picture. Corbin took out both Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes during their match.
Speaking on a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Bully Ray claimed that WWE should have never released Corbin. The veteran said,
“There’s half of me that says, or part of me that says, Baron Corbin should have never been released in the first place. And the other half of me that says, good thing Baron Corbin is released. That’s because now maybe people will appreciate him for what he brings to the table and what he can do. I was always impressed by Baron, from his NXT run, to what he was able to do on the roster, the mixed tag that he had with [Lacey Evans].”
“And then when they had nothing left for him, and he was doing the homeless down and out guy. Everything that Baron Corbin did, he did very well. I found him a credible heel wrestler. I found him a good worker, a guy who learned, a guy who came in with the right attitude from the NFL. He’s a tough dude who knew he could knock your block off. But he was humble enough to put that all in the backseat, because this wasn’t his world anymore. This was the pro wrestling world. I was always a Corbin fan, and I never thought they should’ve let him go. Corbin did such a good job of playing the shi**y hands that he was dealt, that I wish they would’ve put him in polka dots, just to see what he could do with that.”
Former WWE Commentator Comments On Corbin’s Return To SmackDown
During a recent episode of the “Two Count Tuesday” podcast, Jonathan Coachman reflected on The Lone Wolf’s WWE return. He said,
“If you’re Baron Corbin, he is intelligent enough before he signs for them to lay it out. I think that’s one of the biggest reasons that Chris Jericho never came back over. I know it on good authority that Triple H said, ‘I’ve got nothing for you but CM Punk.’ So Baron Corbin is smart enough. Plus, he’s also positioned himself where he doesn’t need them now financially. He’s got a coffee brand going. He’s got other things. He can also make enough money on the indies to supplement that.”
“So to me, for him to re-sign—and I purposely have not talked to him about this because I don’t want to lie to our audience. I don’t want to lie to you, and I certainly don’t want to give away anything that he is thinking or what they are doing. But my gut is that since he has re-signed, he has a very clear vision as coming back as a heel. He has no business being a babyface right now. And that’s why he’s perfect right now for what they need if they can be creative correctly.”
