“Starting July 18th WWE Raw will have a TV-14 rating moving forward on USA Network. The PG Era is over.”
WWE first shifted to an edgier product in 1997 when business was down while competing against WCW and losing in the Monday Night Wars.
WWE kept the rating until July 2008, when they went to PG programming to market to kids and attract family-friendly sponsors. It’s unclear whether SmackDown will have the same rating as Raw or remain PG.
