WWE appears to have quietly reversed course on a major presentation decision involving Raquel Rodriguez and the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
Rodriguez captured the Women’s Intercontinental Championship two weeks ago on WWE RAW, marking her first major singles title victory on the main roster. To commemorate the milestone, she was presented with a custom version of the championship featuring barbed wire wrapped around the design.
The customized title, however, quickly became the subject of criticism and jokes from fans online, with many questioning WWE’s approach to creating alternate championship designs.
During this week’s episode of WWE RAW, the company seemingly abandoned the idea altogether. Rodriguez was shown carrying the standard version of the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, without the barbed-wire additions seen the previous week. That would indicate the customized belt was only used for a single appearance rather than becoming the permanent version of her championship.
Rodriguez also put the title on the line indirectly in tag team action, joining forces with fellow Judgment Day member Roxanne Perez against Sol Ruca and a mystery partner. The mystery partner was eventually revealed to be IYO SKY, who has recently found herself at odds with The Judgment Day.
Rodriguez and Perez entered the bout looking to put an end to Ruca and SKY, but the opposing team proved to have impressive chemistry. During the closing moments, SKY outsmarted Rodriguez and created an opening for Ruca to hit Perez with the Sol-Snatcher, securing the victory for her team.
The loss marked Rodriguez’s first defeat since winning the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. With WWE already reverting to the standard championship design, it remains to be seen what the next chapter of Rodriguez’s title reign will look like.
