AEW star William Regal has come to the defense of WWE related to claims about the treatment and pay of NXT UK talent.

WWE NXT UK is the second NXT brand, launching in 2018, and operates entirely within the United Kingdom.

The brand has faced a series of controversies, with former WWE NXT UK referee Artemis saying she’s never earned less than when working for the brand.

This week, it was reported that WWE canceled NXT UK tapings as BT Sport wanted the studio for soccer coverage, frustrating talent who believed a different venue could be found.

On his Gentleman Villain podcast, Regal defended his former employer, saying:

“They all get paid weekly wage. They all got the best training, they’re all better for being there, they’re all better for being there, they’ll all tell you that.”

Regal was the General Manager of the US-branch of NXT, before his release earlier this year.

The British veteran joined AEW not long after, where he appears as part of the Blackpool Combat Club.
