Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!
Several titles changed hands during WrestleMania Week 2025 from The Showcase of the Immortals itself to NXT Stand & Deliver and so on. Already, we’ve seen one set of titles dropped since then, with Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria losing the Women’s Tag Team Championship back to Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez the very next night.
Ignoring those, what is your forecast for the other new champions?
My question for you today is “Which of the new champions from this past week will lose their title the quickest?”
Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.
As far as my answer…
Obviously, I had this planned out as a question before the women’s tag titles went down, and I had originally thought about putting them down as my pick, as I just assumed Becky and Lyra wouldn’t hold them a long time. However, I’ll say that I wasn’t quite Nostradamus in the sense that I thought they’d hold them until Backlash. Clearly, I was wrong about that.
But as far as the other champions go: Jey Uso (World Heavyweight Championship), Dominik Mysterio (Intercontinental Championship), The New Day (World Tag Team Championship), John Cena (Undisputed WWE Championship), Jacob Fatu (United States Championship), Sol Ruca (NXT Women’s North American Championship), and Hank Walker and Tank Ledger (NXT Tag Team Championship), someone else is going to be the next one to drop their title, by default.
I wholeheartedly expect Cena to hold the WWE title until at least SummerSlam, if not after. The entire premise behind him being the champion right now is holding the belt hostage by the end of the year. There’s a VERY good chance he’s still champion in December, actually. Now, even if he holds it until SummerSlam, that doesn’t mean one of these other champions has to drop their title before that, so it could still be Cena. However, I just can’t picture all of these lasting that long.
The 2025 WWE Draft is going to really determine a lot of this for me. The New Day, for example, could be in jeopardy of dropping the titles if they end up on the same brand as both Penta and Rey Fenix, or on the same brand as The Motor City Machine Guns. Those are the biggest threats to their reign, in my opinion. Then, I could see that being a title change soon after the draft, which may end up being the first switch.
I’m eyeing up Jey Uso, though. Call it pessimism or just doubt, but I don’t think he’s going to have a long title reign. I think more so WWE wanted to give him that belt to pat him on the back for all his hard work over these past five years, and the win at WrestleMania means more than the title reign being long afterward. If anything, the longer it goes on, the more of a chance people will start to be annoyed that he’s “only an entrance” like they were criticizing heading into WrestleMania. It might be smart to take the title off him within 2-3 months. Not every title reign needs to last 6+.
Again, the WWE Draft dictates that a lot. My suspicion is that among other things, John Cena will be drafted to Raw with the WWE Championship, Jey Uso will be drafted to SmackDown, and if that ends up as the same brand as Seth Rollins, Uso is in danger. Sooner or later, Rollins is becoming world champion again to sell this new Dangerous Alliance (or whatever they’re going to call themselves) faction. Having Rollins beat Uso relatively quickly, all things considered, could even be a means to garner quite a bit of heat, too.
I don’t think the NXT Tag Team Championship will being around Hank and Tank for too long, though, either. If they hadn’t said Yoshiki Inamura was wrapping up his time with NXT soon, I would think he and Josh Briggs could win it next week. Now, I’m assuming Hank and Tank retain, Inamura leaves, and Briggs either goes full heel or finds a new tag team partner or something. I could be dead wrong about that, though, and this question could be answered as quickly as next Tuesday night.
My pick for now is Uso will be the first out of these to drop his title, but for argument’s sake, I’ll say Hank and Tank are right there with him, if not surpassing him.
