Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!
Another shocking release in WWE for 2025 as it was reported yesterday that R-Truth‘s contract with World Wrestling Entertainment won’t be renewed. For someone as beloved backstage as Ron Killings who has been around since the Attitude Era, who just had a match with Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena, this was a surprise to say the least.
Carlito followed soon after, meaning The Judgment Day has lost another member and Raw has lost its resident comedy character, too. That’s not cool at all.
My question for you today is “Where would you like to see R-Truth and Carlito show up next? What companies do you think would be the best for their careers?”
Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.
As far as my answer…
Despite being veterans, both guys can still go in the ring. It’s amazing. I think it’s unrealistic to think any company at this point would bring them in and make them world champions, to be honest, but they’re still very valuable both behind the scenes as a mentor to younger talent and as on-screen characters who can be funny, entertaining, and still wrestle to make it worthwhile.
TNA has to work with a smaller roster, overall, to fit within their budget. I don’t think either of them will necessarily be picked up and signed by them. If they do, I think it would be R-Truth, as they can also work with him as a legend from TNA itself. Ron Killings was a huge deal there. Maybe there is still enough juice for a big, serious run, than I thought. I just don’t think TNA is going to want to spend the money, sadly. When it comes to Carlito, I don’t see it happening. They didn’t pick him up after all these years and certainly could have.
I definitely would be surprised to see either guy show up at New Japan or something. Even GCW feels like a space I wouldn’t picture them. I don’t think NWA is even really in their running, either.
So the real question is if All Elite Wrestling would/should pick them up. AEW certainly could, but again, I think it’s more likely to happen for R-Truth than Carlito.
I don’t think Tony Khan would be giving R-Truth a contract out of wanting to see him as a featured wrestler (aka, he’s not going to join Will Ospreay, Swerve Strickland, and “Hangman” Adam Page in their top babyface quest). More so, he would sign him as a gesture of good faith to the locker room. R-Truth is universally beloved and respected, so bringing him on the team could help improve backstage morale AND give people someone new to work with, have some fun with his character work, and pass on that veteran knowledge.
Picture a promo between R-Truth and MJF. How does R-Truth interact with Orange Cassidy or Harley Cameron? Let’s see R-Truth keep up the confused character where he calls Jon Moxley “Dean Ambrose” all the time and tries to SHIELD fist-bump him. Someone who has a whole new set of people to play off as he couldn’t have done any jokes about someone like Kenny Omega or Mark Briscoe before. He’d be worth the money.
