Juice Robinson’s return to AEW came with a noticeable change in his appearance, as the longtime star showed up without his trademark beard. However, Robinson has revealed that the change was not part of a planned new look.
Robinson returned to in-ring action at AEW All In after being sidelined with a broken fibula. He competed in the Casino Gauntlet match, marking his first match back while sporting a clean-shaven look.
During a recent appearance on the “What Happened When” podcast, Robinson explained that an accident at the gym was responsible for the sudden disappearance of his beard.
According to Robinson, he was working out when a lat pulldown cable partially ripped his beard. The incident ultimately led to him getting rid of the beard rather than simply being an intentional change to his presentation.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On deciding to shave it after the accident: “The real reason is, I got it caught in a lat pulldown cable, and it ripped like four out. I got angry, went home from the gym, and shaved it all off. When I saw it, I was like, ‘Whoa.’ I knew when I was coming back, I was like, ‘I’m taking this bitch down to the skin. I’m going to make it look shocking.’ I just wanted it to be a huge change. My thought was coming back with all black and being a little more subdued just to see how I felt and where the wind took me. I knew I would eventually find myself back to where I am now, but I kind of wanted a blank slate.”
On the accident itself: “I’m pulling it down to my chest, and my beard was long and it’s going to through my beard. I’m coming off the leg injury so I’m just trying to get a lift in. I got it caught in the pulley, and it ripped like six long-a** hairs out mid-set. I was p*ssed. I was embarrassed. ‘What am I doing? Get rid of this sh*t.’”
