‘That Person Is Already Dead’ — WWE Star Hits Back At Wrestling Critics

WWE stars or wrestlers with strong characters often face extra scrutiny inside the ring. Fans can quickly focus on their wrestling ability once their personalities become a major part of their appeal. One WWE star has now opened up about that criticism.

Speaking on the “Insight” podcast, Joe Hendry explained why he does not let negative opinions define his progress. According to him, his in-ring ability has improved significantly over the past few years. The former NXT Champion also revealed how he blocks out criticism and focuses on becoming better every day. Hendry said,

“I feel it’s because when you are like a character wrestler, you’re always going to be judged more harshly for your in-ring ability and things like that. But to be honest with you, I take comfort in the fact that I feel really confident because how you get better at wrestling is wrestling people who are better than you, wrestling people who you can learn something from. I’m so fortunate in that all throughout my career. I’ve had the chance to work with people who I’ve been able to learn things from in real time. And I just feel like I’ve come so far in ring since my stuff started blowing up a couple of years ago.”

“But I even feel like I’ve come so far in a couple of months, and I just think where am I going to be in January this year? Where am I going to be in two years’ time? It’s exciting to me. I think that’s how you kind of combat all the [negativity]. It’s like the Miz says, block out all the noise. The way I’m able to block out all the noise is because if I’m criticized, it’s like you’re criticizing me for who I was yesterday, and that person is already dead. That’s kind of how I look at it.”

Hendry Reveals How ‘Fire Logan Paul’ Song Came About In WWE

During the same podcast, Joe Hendry reflected on his RAW signing that featured the “Fire Logan Paul” song. The former TNA World Champion said,

“We added Fire Logan Paul. That’s another interesting story because I was supposed to debut the night after WrestleMania, and the song I had was the same song, but it was ‘Raw, Raw, Joe Hendry signed to Raw.’ Then what happened was they’d announced that I was going to be on Raw the next week. Because what I was going to say something that rhymed with SmackDown, I was going say something like back down because I have signed to Raw. That was what the gag was going to be. But I think Cole had said it, and there was like a graphic.”

“I was like, we need to pivot here and then I found out that I was going to be working with The Vision. I’ve always learned in wrestling that you have to go after the biggest, baddest name. Well, the one name who’s got the most controversy and fame is Logan. So I’ll just go directly after Logan, and the words fit right in. So that’s how the Fire Logan Paul song came about, and then it just kind of blew up beyond what we had maybe expected, and then yeah, had to put it on the album.”
