While Cody Rhodes is featured on the poster for the Royal Rumble, his immediate status for the event is still unknown.

In this week’s issue of The Wrestling Observer, Dave Melzer provided the latest update on the former AEW executive vice president.

Melzer wrote “Obviously if (Roman) Reigns vs. Rhodes is the Mania match, and Rhodes’ promo and the packages are certainly building to him challenging for the title and different ideas have been discussed whether it’s against Reigns or creating the second title on the first night of Mania as has been rumored and discussed in the past, his winning the Rumble could lead to either scenario.”
