Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day! For some reason, Wrestlelamia put out a post yesterday stating “There are rumors WWE is actively looking at going back to being WWF and are currently testing the waters.”

Nothing else has come out about this, the sources haven’t been named, it wasn’t hinted at in any way on Monday Night Raw, and it came out of nowhere. All of this essentially points to this being a totally random and unfounded rumor.

But what if? Would that be a good decision? Is that something you’d be a fan of in any way?

My question for you today is “Should WWE go back to being WWF if it was in any way possible?”

As far as my answer…

First off, let me reiterate again that I don’t think there’s any chance whatsoever that there is any truth to this. WWE only switched out of WWF in the first place because of legal issues. They aren’t going to convert back over to WWF and face the same problems with the World Wildlife Fund, have to repurchase all new domain names and rebrand everything, while throwing away all the media consciousness they’ve developed by being WWE longer than they were WWF. It just isn’t happening.

But…in a perfect world…this wouldn’t have been an issue to begin with.

I always liked the sound of The World Wrestling Federation so much better than World Wrestling Entertainment. The English professor in me is irked every time I hear people say “the WWE” knowing that that makes no sense (it isn’t The World Wrestling Entertainment, folks!!!) and I will always prefer Howard Finkel announcing “and NEWWWW World Wrestling Federation champion…” over “and newwww WWE champion” as it just sounds more regal and important to me.

I like the current WWE logo better than any we’ve had since the classic old school WWF logo:

That will always hold a place in my heart. It wouldn’t work in today’s modern graphic design culture, but it could be modernized and keep a similar concept. It annoyed me when they switched to WWE and didn’t just add another line at the bottom of the scratch logo, too.

But at this point, even if it was possible to make the switches, it just wouldn’t be worth it. New belts to change just the WWE logo to a new one with an F in it? A whole new statue in front of the headquarters building? All that paperwork? People are now more used to calling it WWE, so what would be the benefit of having to retrain everyone to say something else?

Maybe on some other timeline, we’re all talking about Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes being the faces of the WWF right now, and we’re debating how weird it would be if they renamed to something like World Wrestling Entertainment. Perhaps in that universe, the cornucopia is on the Fruit of the Loom logo and all is well in the world.
