Hiroshi Tanahashi will compete for the final time in January 2026, with fans excited to see who he will face on his in-ring farewell tour.

In a recent interview with Tokyo Sports, Shinsuke Nakamura was asked about a potential reunion with Tanahashi as part of his retirement. He said,

“They say, ‘Never say never.’ I hear people talking about it, but when you think about the reality of the situation — you can say whatever you want about emotions, but you have to clear up practical issues. There are probably some things I shouldn’t say, and I can’t promise anything. I can’t take responsibility for that.”

Nakamura added that he believes 48 is too early to retire in wrestling but acknowledged that Tanahashi’s body has taken a toll over the years.

The reigning WWE U.S. Champion also acknowledged that Tanahashi has responsibilities outside of the ring as the President of NJPW.

Tanahashi and Nakamura last worked together in 2016 during the Road to New Beginning Tour. Nakamura would sign with WWE shortly after.
