Seth Rollins’ character was extremely pleased with himself for breaking John Cena’s nose in 2015, but the real Rollins was far from happy after the incident.
On the July 27, 2015 episode of RAW, Rollins broke Cena’s nose during a match by accidentally kneeing him in the face.
While speaking on CBS Atlanta 92.8’s The Game Mornings, The Visionary talked about his reaction backstage after the accident.
“I apologized profusely. John Cena and I wrestled a million times and every once in a while you’d get a clunker in there. But this one was just, for some reason, I just made real contact with his face, and rearranged it pretty bad.”
Rollins would dethrone Cena, the U.S. Champion at the time, at that year’s Summerslam, becoming the first (and to date, only) person to hold the U.S title and WWE Championship at the same time.
Cena would win the U.S. title a month later at Night of Champions, where Rollins would injure Sting later in the show during their WWE Championship match.
