WWE Champion Sami Zayn’s reign could come to a swift end as soon as this week’s RAW, but WWE Hall of Famer JBL doesn’t see it happening.

Zayn’s title win at WWE Night of Champions caught many off guard, including those within WWE who have been left scrambling as a result.

Some have argued that Zayn will be a transitional champion; someone who wins the title just so someone else can win the gold in a big moment.

On a recent edition of the “Something to Wrestle” podcast, JBL shared his take that Zayn’s reign is here to stay. He said,

“I don’t think Sami’s a mailman [an insider term for a champion who wins just to ‘deliver’ the title to someone else.] My opinion, I think he’s the champion, and they’re going to give him a shot. I think the championship is going to be held by Sami as long as the merit’s there.

“Not something of, ‘OK, we’ve got to get this on somebody else so we can push our star going into the later part of the year.’ I don’t think that’s the case. Sami’s just the champion. Not a transitional champion. Not a mailman. I think Sami’s just the champion, and he should be treated as such.”

Zayn’s victory makes him both a Triple Crown Champion and a Grand Slam Champion, adding to a resume that also includes headlining WrestleMania.

Sami’s first title defense will come on the July 6 RAW against Cody Rhodes, who beat Jey Uso to earn a rematch for the gold.
