Recent comments by Jonathan Coachman have fueled speculation that Vince McMahon is looking to buy back WWE. While Coachman may have heard something offhand, the rumor gained momentum largely because it was repeated without independent sourcing or verification.

Fightful Select is reporting that from a financial standpoint, a buyback seems implausible. WWE’s market value has surged since its sale, thanks to strategic growth and lucrative media rights deals. McMahon no longer has the capital to regain a controlling interest, and his influence within TKO Group Holdings has diminished.

Though McMahon still owns shares, his stake is far from dominant. The Vanguard Group, for example, holds nearly as much stock as he does. According to a report from Wrestlenomics, Endeavor, Silver Lake equity holders, and Egon Durban collectively control about 60.92% of the company.

In short, any talk of Vince McMahon buying back WWE remains pure speculation and nobody believes that’s going to happen.
