Rumor Killer On AEW Using The Wrong Ring For Grand Slam: Australia

A recent rumor circulating on Twitter suggested that AEW had to borrow a ring for their Grand Slam event in Brisbane due to shipping issues and incorrect freight time calculations. However, Fightful Select reports that this claim is false.

According to the report, AEW did not face any shipping issues or delays. The ring used at the event was an 18′ x 18′ size, rather than the standard 20′ x 20′ ring AEW typically uses in the U.S. This smaller size had always been part of AEW’s plan for the show, and it is a common ring size used by various other promotions, including TNA, WCW, ECW, ROH, and many prominent independent companies.

Contrary to some online claims, AEW did not use a 16′ x 16′ ring. The 18′ x 18′ ring was scaled appropriately, with the apron and other components adjusted to fit the size. AEW has never shipped their rings overseas, and despite speculation, this was not an issue for the event.

While it’s unclear whether the ring used was the specific one AEW had planned to rent, they have used this 18′ x 18′ size on occasion in the U.S., including for notable matches such as the cage match between Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker.

The choice of ring size was part of AEW’s original planning, not the result of any logistical problems.
