Roman Reigns Comments On Blanking During His 2017 Promo With John Cena, Ad-Libbing

WWE Undisputed Champion Roman Reigns was recently a guest on Logan Paul’s podcast, Impaulsive.

Among the topics discussed, Reigns spoke about the infamous promo with John Cena where he blanked and could not remember his lines. The botch took place in 2017, when Reigns was face-to-face with Cena building up their title match. Reigns also spoke about how ad-libbing promos comes over time with experience.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On ad-libbing in promos: “This comes back with experience and just having the time in. If you’re gonna ad-lib, that’s tricky, it’s perfect, it’s good, you wanna ad-lib because it’s a live performance, but sometimes ad-lib takes your eye off the ball, so now you go back to, OK, let me get back on track.”

On if he’s ever blanked in the middle of a promo: “I’ve blanked a few times. I probably blanked a couple weeks ago, but when you get to a certain point, you just roll through it.”

On if he blanked in his 2017 promo battle with John Cena: “I believe I did, yeah.”

On if that moment ignited a part of him that made him better: “I think just being in that position and going through that experience made me better. I don’t think it was anything like John specifically, because I take from everybody I’ve worked with, everybody I’ve competed with, I always try to take something that I learned from them. It’s like if you’re an offensive coordinator, I’m working under you as a quarterback coach, it’s like, man, that offense was good, I’m going to take everything I like from it, then I’m going to add a little bit to my own playbook.”
