Report – WWE To Revive The Sin Cara Character

WWE could be preparing to bring back one of its most recognizable masked characters, although a different superstar would reportedly be taking on the identity.

According to a report from Pwinsider, preliminary creative pitches have been discussed within WWE regarding a possible revival of the Sin Cara gimmick. While nothing has been finalized, the company is reportedly exploring the possibility of introducing a new version of the character.

If WWE decides to move forward, the role would be assigned to a new performer rather than either of the two wrestlers who previously portrayed Sin Cara.

The character originally debuted in WWE in 2011, with Luis Ignacio Urive Alvirde, better known as Místico, performing under the mask until October 2013.

Cinta de Oro, who was previously known as Hunico in WWE, also has an extensive history with the character. He first portrayed an impostor called Sin Cara Negro in 2011 before eventually taking over as the official Sin Cara in 2013.

Cinta de Oro continued portraying the masked superstar until December 2019, when WWE granted his request for a release from the company.

Although WWE has made no official announcement regarding Sin Cara’s return, the timing of these reported discussions is noteworthy.

With WWE expanding its presence in lucha libre following its acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA and Mexican wrestling stars continuing to gain prominence within the company, reviving an established masked character could fit into its broader creative direction.
