Eric Young’s departure from TNA came at his own request, and new details have emerged regarding the former TNA World Champion’s exit and what could be next for him.
According to a report from Fightful Select, Young voluntarily requested his release from the promotion. While he had been competing for TNA without a contract for an extended period of time, he recently signed a short-term agreement. The report notes that these shorter-term deals have become increasingly common within TNA.
As for Young’s future, WWE is once again viewed as a potential landing spot. Young has maintained a strong relationship with WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, and sources within WWE have long indicated that the door remains open for him to return.
The report also revisits Young’s brief WWE stint in late 2022. He re-signed with the company in November of that year, but never appeared on television before ultimately requesting his release in early 2023. At the time, it was reported that Young decided to leave after learning that Vince McMahon would be returning to the company. WWE officials reportedly wanted him to remain, with Triple H said to be opposed to Young’s departure.
Many within WWE expected Young to eventually make his way back to the company, although it remains unclear whether that would be as an in-ring performer, producer, or in another capacity. The report also notes that Young signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) as part of his WWE release.
