The legendary Haku has received his first piece of WWE merchandise since returning to TV, which makes reference to an infamous incident from his past.
The t-shirt in question features an image of Haku from his career in the ring, his name on the back of the t-shirt, and the phrase “Got your nose.”
Far from referencing the fun prank adults play on small children, the “got your nose” line is a nod to an altercation Haku had at an airport lounge bar.
On March 3, 1989, Haku was accosted by some men in a Baltimore airport who mocked him and claimed that professional wrestling was fake.
The altercation ended with Haku and Siva Afi beating every one of the men, and during the fight, he bit off the nose of one of the men.
Speaking to ProWrestling.net in October 2011, Haku shared that the infamous story actually happened, and shared more details. He said,
“Me and Siva Afi went over and there were lots of babyfaces there at the bar. So we went and sat in the other corner away from them. When they were ready to close, we had a few drinks, and on our way out there were five guys just sitting there. Of course, the same thing came out. The ‘fake’ stuff. ‘Hey, are you guys with those guys – wrestlers? The fake wrestlers on TV?’ You know.
“I said, ‘Yeah. I’ll show you.’ And I reached over without thinking – there are four other guys there [Haku chuckles to himself] and I grabbed his face, and bit his nose off. Then the fight started. Me and Siva kind of cleaned house there and left. I’ll never forget it.”
