On a recent edition of his “Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast, Matt Hardy paid tribute to Andy ‘The Butcher’ Williams after his death last week.
During the show, Hardy recalled a pitch by Williams that would have kept The Butcher on AEW programming while his tag partner The Blade was injured. He said,
“There was one point when Blade was out hurt and he like said, ‘Hey, I have this idea. If he’s going to be out for a few weeks, what if, you know, myself, The Butcher and Big Money Matt, we do a tag team called Lunch Money and we just attack people backstage, we rob them, we bully them for lunch money.’ He said, ‘I think Big Money Matt would get off on that.’”
“Very funny idea. Very, very funny idea.”
Hardy joined AEW in 2020. He and The Butcher shared the ring 15 times, as either adversaries or allies, before Matt left AEW in early 2024.
Hardy’s final match in AEW saw him work with Williams as Matt, Jeff Hardy and Mark Briscoe defeated Kip Sabian, The Butcher, and The Blade.
