Mark Henry Reveals Why Nepotism Can Be A Positive In Pro Wrestling

Mark Henry doesn’t believe coming from a famous wrestling family should automatically be viewed as a negative. In fact, the WWE Hall of Famer argues that having relatives already established in the business can provide aspiring wrestlers with valuable knowledge and an understanding of the industry that most newcomers have to develop on their own.

Henry addressed the long-running debate over nepotism during an exclusive interview with ClutchPoints ahead of AEW All In: London 2026. Rather than criticizing wrestlers who benefit from their family connections, Henry pointed to several major names whose backgrounds gave them an early introduction to the wrestling world. He said,

“No, it’s good. I mean, Charlotte Flair, Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, Dominik Mysterio. Like, you can go down the list. There are 10 or 15 wrestlers whose father or mother was involved in the industry. And when you know and understand the terminologies, and you know what the travel is gonna be like, because as a kid, you actually did some of it with your parents.”

“I think that is an advantage because people that know me know that I’m about business. I’m about the industry, how to make things better, how to increase relationships.”

“That’s what my son is. He’s a reflection of me, and he knows how sensitive I am to philanthropy, and picking up the mantle for helping people that don’t have anything. So he’s gonna do more than his share because he knows who his father is and what his father did to help the industry, and he’s gonna be a part of that.”
