Mandy Rose and Elayna Black have remained close since their respective WWE departures, and Rose recently opened up about their relationship.

The two women were once on opposite sides of a major NXT Women’s Championship storyline, with Black — then known as Cora Jade — feuding with Rose during their time in WWE NXT. Both have since moved on from the company, with Black now competing for TNA Wrestling while Rose has stepped away from the wrestling business for the time being.

During a recent appearance on TMZ’s “Inside the Ring” podcast, Rose discussed staying connected with Black after their WWE runs, including their work with subscription-based fan platforms such as OnlyFans.

Rose revealed that she helped Black get started on the platform and had plenty of praise for how quickly the TNA star took to the business.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On her friendship with Black: “Yeah, we’re really close. And honestly, I look at her like, I’m like a big sister to her, because I just feel like she always did look up to me. And I think – listen, she’s smart and she knows what she’s got to do. And she listens, and she takes control and I love that about her. And she doesn’t care what people think. You know, at the end of the day, a lot of this has so much to do with [the fact that] people are just embarrassed. But why are you embarrassed with a woman trying to find what she needs to do to help monetize the audience that she built, right? Like, that’s what you want to do. We all built our own audience. There there’s a reason why we all have a following. Yes, we were put on a platform that helped us be in front of this amazing audience, but not everyone gets over like others do, right? So, I feel like you need to kind of work with what you have. and she’s a perfect example of someone who has done that.”

On helping Black after she was released: “I got her with my management team right away, like she wasted no time. She was just on it from the get-go when she had a feeling that she was getting fired. She called me prior, a week before, and she was right. And I literally had the phone call set up for her. I called my team. I said, ‘Listen, this is who she is, blah blah blah.’ And they connected right afterwards, and the rest is history.

“So she’s done an incredible job. And I think that’s awesome that she looks up to me like that, because we also had a lot of fun working with each other too… She really is like my little sister.”

Nattie is opening up about the motivations behind her current character and her desire to further develop the persona on WWE television.

The WWE star introduced this new version of her character on WWE TV in January, later making the change official by dropping “Natalya” and adopting her new ring name at the Royal Rumble later that month.

However, the character received limited development on WWE’s main roster programming following its debut. Nattie has had more opportunities to showcase the persona on NXT, particularly during her recent feud with Jaida Parker.

Speaking with the Toronto Sun, Nattie discussed the evolution of her character and explained why she wants to continue exploring it on WWE television.

You can check out some highlights from the interview below:

On why the character development took a break: “That’s the thing is that for me, I’ve been also trying to explain to people about the character. Because on WWE programming, I’ve probably done about — I don’t know, maybe six weeks of character work with the Nattie character… I debuted at the Royal Rumble to an amazing reaction. I think people just even in Saudi Arabia, they were like, ‘Oh, this is the new character. She’s here.’

“And then I did a little bit with Maxxine, and then we were going into Mania season. So, it was like Liv versus Stephanie, AJ versus Becky. So, there was this little break from like, ‘Okay, we kicked off the new character,’ and then all of a sudden, it was like, ‘Okay, we’ve got to get into WrestleMania stuff.’”

On thinking about where to take the character: “So, I totally understood that I wasn’t going to be a part of WrestleMania… I was already, the wheels were already spinning for me. So, I was thinking, ‘Okay, what do I do to continue to develop the character? What do I do to continue to explain to people who might not know who Nattie is, and where she came from, and why the change?’

“And I remember Michael Hayes saying to me backstage, he was like, ‘It’s really important that people understand the change. Why did you go from Natalya Natalyia for 18-ish years, and now all of a sudden you’re Nattie?’ And I said to Michael, I was like — and hopefully I’ll get a chance to explain this more on WWE programming in the near future. But for me, it’s not like I’m trying to re-enact, like I’m trying to do an MMA character for example. It’s not like some people are like, ‘Oh, she’s just trying to be like Ronda Rousey.’ No, I love Ronda, and I think Ronda did really cool work in WWE, but I feel like my character is still evolving and growing. But the character is really just a derivative of what I did when I first started from my grandfather’s dungeon, you know?”

On the core of the character: “For me, the Nattie character was really about just being unapologetic. It’s like, ‘Yeah, I’ve had a legendary career, but I don’t need to tell the world about my career.’ People can embrace it if they want, or they can say, ‘Yeah, Nattie’s –‘ That’s why I say I’m a Low-Key Legend, because people are coming back and saying, ‘No, no. You’re not low-key. You’re –‘ Let them make the decision, let them decide whether I’m a legend or not. For me, I’m always just going to truthfully keep my head down and just keep grinding and keep working.”
