Former AEW Women’s World Champion “The Glamour” Mariah May has officially joined WWE, making her debut during this week’s episode of WWE NXT at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
Fightful Select is reporting that May’s surprise appearance was a tightly guarded secret. Sources indicate that only a handful of people within WWE were aware of her involvement beforehand, with even staff in the Gorilla position reportedly learning about the segment just moments before it aired.
Following weeks of speculation after her AEW departure, May has now signed a multi-year contract with WWE. Internal movement within the company had already begun in anticipation of her arrival, including several recent NXT call-ups to the main roster. While WWE didn’t mention her by name on the broadcast, her appearance had been in the works for some time.
May’s AEW exit had long been expected. While AEW was reportedly interested in retaining her, her departure was amicable, and there’s no sign of bad blood. She was officially removed from AEW’s online roster on May 31, though her management initially claimed that she was still under contract. New details suggest that her deal quietly expired at the start of June. The early roster removal raised eyebrows, especially given that other departing talents — such as Abadon — have remained listed on AEW’s website past their contract expiration.
As of now, WWE has not confirmed whether she’ll continue using the Mariah May name. Since it is believed to be her real name, there are no legal restrictions preventing its use. However, WWE has a mixed track record when it comes to talent retaining their independent ring names.
