Although John Cena’s last match at a premium live event was at WWE SummerSlam 2021 in a loss to Roman Reigns, he is expected to return to in-ring action in 2023. 

Cena made his last appearance on WWE TV in June to celebrate his 20th anniversary with the company on Raw and was introduced by Vince McMahon. 

WrestleVotes while speaking with GiveMeSport noted that Cena is expected to be wrestling at WrestleMania 39 next year in Los Angeles, although it’s unclear who he would wrestle at the event. 

“I know he touches base every so often, and although Vince is out of the picture, Cena still has a love for this place. John Cena and Triple H have a respect for each other.”

WrestleVotes continued, “WrestleMania is still WrestleMania and it’s in Los Angeles. If Cena is legitimately trying to be ‘the next Rock’ you should perform at WrestleMania in Hollywood, and I think he’ll be there and I think it’ll be wrestling. I’ll leave it at that.”
