Jim Cornette has strongly criticized TNA’s decision to fire Max Caster after the controversy surrounding his Bound For Glory entrance rap, arguing that the real failure happened before the show ever went live.
Cornette said that the Riyadh line was clearly the problem since it referred to the recent attacks in the region, but he does not believe that mistake alone justified ending Caster’s short TNA run.
On his YouTube show, Cornette stated that a producer should have reviewed Caster’s rap backstage with him, Moose, and the referee before the segment aired. He said that the easy solution would have been to remove the Riyadh reference and replace it with another line, while keeping the rest of the material unchanged.
Cornette also raised an important question about who was responsible for producing the segment. He explained that if Caster rehearsed one version and then changed it live, the blame would fall on Caster. However, if the producers knew what he planned to say and allowed it on television, they should face equal criticism.
Cornette added that TNA should have investigated its backstage process first instead of immediately calling Caster after fans became angry. His co-host, Brian Last, argued that the firing turned a bad moment into a much larger story than Bound For Glory itself, and Cornette agreed that the issue could have been solved before the pay-per-view went live.
