Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!
Yesterday, I had the oh-so-timely question of “When should Fatal Influence break up?” only for Jacy Jayne to surprisingly win the NXT Women’s Championship last night on NXT with some help from Fallon Henley. You win some, you lose some, and I was clearly very off with my prediction, wasn’t it?
So now it’s time to flip the script and talk about Jayne’s run as the top woman on NXT—something I’m a fan of, for the record.
My question for you today is “How would you go about booking Jacy Jayne as champion? Who would be her upcoming feuds and how would you eventually take the title off her?”
Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.
As far as my answer…
Take it with a grain of salt, as I was obviously wrong about the title changing hands to begin with, but my prediction for when she loses the title will be actually rather soon. I think she’s not walking out of the summer with the belt around her waist, and I think the target date is going to be Great American Bash, as that’s the only event coming up that has been confirmed.
That’s not too far away from now, but I think that’s by design as well. My theory is that WWE decided instead of having Jordynne Grace win the title from Stephanie Vaquer at Battleground, they wanted to have a heel champion in between them to act as an easier transition, as well as to make sure when Grace wins it, that people cheer. Vaquer losing would have upset a portion of the audience, who would then have been sour about Grace after.
Of course, that can still happen when it comes to Fatal Influence fans, but it’s a lot easier to excuse when it’s a babyface beating a heel rather than another babyface.
Clearly, Jayne still has her issues with Fallon Henley, and they even pushed Jazmyn Nyx down on last night’s show. That may be a sign that Fatal Influence is going to break up imminently, or it can just continue to build to that.
There are three potential avenues I could see WWE going, but I certainly have my preference of them.
My least favorite would be that Jayne feuds with Henley, beats her, and then drops the title to Grace all within the span of around a month and a half. Technically, an even worse option in my mind would be for someone at random to beat Jayne in the future instead, like putting the belt on Nikkita Lyons, but I’m working with the “Grace is next in line” theory in mind.
An option I would be okay with, but not my favorite, would be that over the course of the next few weeks, Jayne and Henley start butting heads to the point that Henley gets a title shot at the same time that Grace works her way into a No. 1 contender’s position, setting up a Triple Threat at Great American Bash, which Grace wins. While that looks better on paper than a one-on-one with Jayne vs. Grace, I think it doesn’t maximize the storytelling potential.
My preference would be that Henley and Jayne butt heads over the coming weeks, sure, but they still stick together. In the meantime, Lola Vice gets a title opportunity as a friend of Stephanie Vaquer’s (they are teaming together for Worlds Collide, too). Jayne beats Vice and retains the title. This would take place some time in June on television.
Then, Grace wins a No. 1 contender’s match of some kind to earn the right to challenge Jayne for the title at Great American Bash. By then, Henley is so jealous of Jayne being the new defacto leader that she walks out on Jayne during the match, leading to Grace picking up the pin and capturing the title.
Coming out of Great American Bash, Jayne and Henley are ready for their official breakup and feud with Nyx in the middle of them, and Grace is moving on to start her run with the belt.
