Has Necro Butcher Really Signed With WWE?

WWE President Nick Khan was reportedly the driving force behind the promotion’s recent signing of independent wrestling veteran the Necro Butcher.

The 57-year-old wrestler has recently returned to the spotlight for multiple reasons, including his involvement in a past rivalry with Samoa Joe that was revisited during Season 7, Episode 4 of Dark Side of the Ring. The episode explored their infamous 2005 encounter at IWA Something To Prove, along with the Necro Butcher’s upbringing and several stories from behind the scenes.

The documentary also revisited the incident often associated with CHIKARA, in which the Necro Butcher and Mad Man Pondo allegedly became too physical with Ring of Honor trainees during a match. The situation reportedly prompted Joe to call out Butcher during a promo.

While Joe eventually made his way to WWE before joining AEW, the Necro Butcher continued building his reputation on the independent circuit. Throughout his career, he competed for several notable promotions, including Combat Zone Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, and Ring of Honor.

However, Butcher recently revealed that he had signed a deal with WWE, making for an unexpected development in his career.

On October 7, the Necro Butcher announced via Facebook that he had agreed to a basic Legends deal with WWE. He described the timing of the offer as “ridiculous,” explaining that it came shortly after he had walked out of his job.

Butcher also indicated that the agreement could open the door to several projects that had already been discussed. Despite the opportunity, he intends to take things slowly and confirmed that he will honor his previously scheduled wrestling dates. He also made it clear that fans should not expect apology videos or speeches from him.

According to a report from Pwinsider, the report of the Necro Butcher signing a WWE Legends deal was 100% accurate. WWE President Nick Khan was the person who spearheaded the agreement.

Khan reportedly played a similar role in WWE’s deal with the estate of New Jack several years ago, further highlighting the promotion’s efforts to establish arrangements involving figures from wrestling’s past.

It remains to be seen how WWE plans to utilize the Necro Butcher under the agreement or whether the deal will lead to any on-screen appearances or other projects.
