‘Going Through A Lot Of Politics’ – Ex-WWE Star’s Exit From The Company Addressed

Sonya Deville (now Daria Rae in TNA) recently opened up about her exit from WWE after the company didn’t renew her contract. Appearing on “The Determined Society” show, Rae claimed that leaving WWE was the best thing that happened to her. She said,

“So, looking back, it’s probably the best thing that could’ve happened to me cause I think I was becoming numb to the routine and stagnant, and I felt a little broken down. Like I felt like I was losing that luster that I always had, that fire that I always had. And it wasn’t for lack of love of the sport. But, you know, just going through a lot of things and politics, and all the kind of things that go into a high-level sport like that. I needed it. I needed a wake-up call. And I needed a fresh start. And so, the passion and fire I’ve gained back for my life over the past two years has been insane.”

Deville Comments On Being Written Off WWE TV

In an interview with Metro’s Alistair McGeorge, the erstwhile Sonya Deville reflected on stepping away from WWE TV. She said,

“I never wanted to step away. That wasn’t my choice. It was probably what was best for me at the time, so I’m glad people had my personal well-being in mind. But I never wanted to step away. I was chomping at the bit every second I was home, texting the powers that be like, ‘When can I come back? When can I come back?’ Obviously, hindsight is 20/20, but I was hungry, I was in the middle of it. I had loved the angle and the storyline that Mandy and I did, including Dolph [Ziggler] – [AKA Nic Nemeth] – and Otis. I was kind of just getting my footing, I feel like, as a character on screen.”

“Obviously, we can’t predict the future, and timing wasn’t perfect. Coming back in the authority role was arguably the most fun I had in [WWE]. It was cool. I can’t ever look back and be like, ‘Oh, I wish that didn’t happen.’ Because everything leads to the next thing, and where you’re supposed to be. Look at me now – I’m in TNA, it’s exactly where I’m supposed to be right now, I believe that.”
