Find Your Inner Wrestling Nerd Day | Question Of The Day

Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

Today is supposed to be national Find Your Inner Nerd Day, according to the ever-growing list of “national ___ day” calendar designations. News to me, but let’s celebrate it regardless, as professional wrestling fans can be some of the nerdiest folks out there, as we embrace the sports entertainment we obsess over like nothing else.

My question for you today is “What is your inner wrestling nerd?” As in, what traits do you exhibit that pinpoint you as a wrestling geek? Do you have a big archive of collectibles? Is your birthday always themed around wrestling? Did you name your child after your favorite wrestler? What showcases to other people that you are a part of this fandom?

Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.

As far as my answer…

Look at my job! I’ve written about professional wrestling for over 15 years. I’ve had my own website, Smark Out Moment, since 2009 and spend most of every day working on something related to either that, eWrestlingNews, or my other site, Fanboys Anonymous. (If you want to help me keep the lights on for my 2 sites, please consider supporting me through Patreon or YouTube’s channel membership for SOM or FA (P/YT)

Back in elementary school in the 90s, I was once called out on how nearly every shirt that I wore every day was a WWF t-shirt. If I wasn’t rocking a D-Generation X tee, it was Stone Cold Steve Austin, In Your House: Mind Games, or something similar. When I stopped watching wrestling in 1999, that naturally had already faded away, and I’ve admittedly not purchased almost any kind of wrestling merchandise in any fashion ever since. But that’s mostly because I just don’t buy merch across the board. As passionate as I am about the superhero genre, for instance, I don’t have many collectibles or apparel related to any of that, either. But just as I have a Superman cap and some Funko Pop figures on my bookshelf and a few things here and there, if I see someone with an nWo shirt walking around in NYC, you’d better believe I’m giving them an “nWo for life!” or something

The biggest tell for me as a wrestling nerd, though, would have to be how I incorporate talking about it into everyday conversations. Not a day goes by without me uttering some kind of analogy to wrestling, be it “That reminds me of this one thing….” or dropping some nerdy “interesting fact” about wrestling that is likely not going to be considered all that interesting by anyone but me, or just flat out using phrases like “babyface” or “gimmick” like it’s normal lexicon speak.

I bet we all have group chats with certain friends dedicated to a shared love of wrestling, right? And how many of us follow wrestling-centric TikTok, Instagram and X accounts where our algorithm knows we’d appreciate memes about Stone Cold Steve Austin or whatever?

My best friend of 27 years was introduced to me through a mutual friend as “This is the guy I told you about who also loves The Undertaker.” Two wrestling songs were included in my wedding (my entrance for the ceremony and my groomsmen’s announcement for the reception).

Once we get into wrestling, we get hooked, and there’s no escaping. So let out your inner nerd and let us know how you geek out about pro wrestling with a comment below!
