When a giant company buys a famous brand, fans often worry that the things they loved will slowly disappear. That fear followed WWE’s acquisition of AAA, and now one of the promotion’s key figures has responded.
During a recent interview with Bajo la Piel, executive Dorian Roldán clarified that those worries are far from the truth. He said that WWE has repeated one message since the start of the deal, which is that the spirit of Mexican lucha libre must not be lost. WWE does not want another purely American product, but something different, made by Mexicans for the world.
Roldán also revealed who guides the AAA creative today. The team has three members comprising The Undertaker, longtime producer Jeremy Borash, and Roldán himself. His own job is to give the final approval on whether something feels truly Mexican.
These comments match Roldán’s earlier reasons for the sale. He believes that WWE offers unmatched production, merchandising, and global reach. For Roldán, it feels like Hollywood has come to Mexican wrestling, with the biggest company in the world lending its best talent, camera crews, design, and merchandising to a Mexican brand. Moreover, he declared that the goal is to bring Mexican wrestling to the world, not swap it out for an American version.
In short, Roldán says WWE is not trying to turn AAA into WWE. It wants the promotion to stay authentically Mexican while giving it a far bigger stage.
