Nothing was going to stop Cody Rhodes from competing at last year’s WWE Hell in a Cell PLE, not even a torn pectoral.

Hours prior to the event, Rhodes suffered the injury during a training session but fought through the pain to wrestle against Seth Rollins.

Speaking to “AP News” Rhodes reflected on the decision to wrestle, which he believes was an easy one to make. He said,

“It was just a matter of I had to do it. The doctor said I couldn’t hurt it anymore, and I had the surgery lined up. I don’t want to be dramatic and say I could not live with myself, but that’s not the type of wrestler or athlete I was brought up to be. Every person who texted me and gave me these wonderful superlatives about it, I said you would have done the same thing. That crowd needed that match, and I was going to have that match.”

After having surgery, Rhodes returned to win the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match in January of this year.

The American Nightmare will face Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns this weekend at WrestleMania 39.

In the interview, Rhodes also spoke about being jealous of those who trained with his father in NXT, known as ‘Dusty’s Kids.’
