Before returning to AEW earlier this year, Chris Jericho gave serious thought to his future amid months of speculation linking him to a WWE comeback.
Jericho made his AEW return on the April 1 episode of Dynamite, ending a year-long absence. During that time, rumors about a potential WWE return gained momentum, with Jericho occasionally fueling the speculation himself before ultimately signing a new deal to remain with AEW.
Speaking on a recent edition of the “Beef Vegan” podcast, Jericho was asked how close he came to joining WWE. He explained that while he explored his options, one key factor kept pulling him back to AEW.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On how close he was to going to WWE: “You weigh all your options, but I have skin in the game with AEW. I helped create AEW and I was never gone. I was just off TV for a while, while we figured out some stuff. Basically, I ended one contract and went straight to the other one.”
On being happy in AEW: “I like Tony Khan as a boss. I like AEW as a company and the growth that we’ve done. I helped start the company. WWE existed before I was there. It exists after I was there. AEW will exist after I’m there, but it didn’t exist before I was there. It’s more exciting to be with the company that I helped create.”
