Bret Hart Didn’t Know What AEW Was When He Agreed To Appear

Bret Hart may have played a pivotal role in All Elite Wrestling, but he didn’t know what the company was when he agreed to appear.

Hart appeared at the promotion’s inaugural event, Double or Nothing 2019, where he revealed the design of the AEW World Championship.

During a recent appearance on the “Inside The Ropes” podcast, Hart admitted that he had no clue what AEW was ahead of the pay-per-view event. He said,

“I was actually going to Las Vegas for just a personal appearance and doing a signing there, and they called me and asked me if I would show up at the AEW show. I didn’t even know what it was.

“They basically told me, ‘If you walk across the street from your hotel, walk into the building, and walk out to the ring and hold the belt up, we’ll pay you x amount of money.’”

Bret added that he never saw appearing for AEW as a slight at WWE but merely as a way to boost a new company and meet some new wrestlers.

The Hitman shared that “AEW is so important to wrestling today,” and believes that Tony Khan’s company has a better approach than WWE.
