The box office numbers are in for Disney’s live-action Moana, and the film fell well short of expectations despite opening at No. 1.
The remake earned $43 million domestically and $52 million internationally, giving it a $95 million worldwide opening weekend.
With a reported $250 million production budget before marketing costs, the debut is considered underwhelming. The original animated Moana premiered just 10 years ago, while its sequel was released in 2024.
Disney had reportedly projected a $60 million to $65 million domestic opening and approximately $140 million worldwide, making the actual results a significant miss. The film narrowly avoided posting the weakest opening ever for one of Disney’s live-action remakes, edging past Snow White, which debuted with $42 million domestically in 2024 before finishing its theatrical run with $87 million in North America and $205 million worldwide.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reprises his role as Maui, returning to play the same character he voiced in Disney’s animated Moana films.
Layla Diggs will no longer compete on this week’s episode of WWE NXT due to injury.
WWE NXT General Manager Robert Stone has announced that Diggs has not been medically cleared to compete after suffering an injury during an NXT live event. As a result, she has been pulled from her scheduled NXT Women’s North American Championship match against Zaria.
Stone also confirmed that a replacement challenger will be announced.
Diggs earned the title opportunity by winning a four-way match over Lizzy Rain, Izzi Dame, and Thea Hail on last Tuesday’s episode of NXT. She went on to face Zaria at an NXT live event on July 11 before the injury forced her out of the championship bout.
