Backstage Update On WWE’s Recent Releases – R-Truth, Carlito, Gigi Dolin, Cora Jade, & Others

Last month saw a wave of WWE releases across both the main roster and NXT, and new details have now emerged regarding the future plans and contract statuses of those affected — including two main roster veterans who will soon part ways with the company.

Regarding Jakara Jackson, Fightful Select is reporting that sources within NXT indicate that her release didn’t come as a complete surprise. Creative plans had already been underway to split her from Lash Legend, suggesting some in the company anticipated the move. However, the decision still caught many off guard — especially given previous internal discussions about promoting both women to the main roster. At one point, there were even creative pitches for Jackson and Legend to capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles.

In the aftermath of the releases, there appears to be external interest in some of the outgoing talent. Sources from MLW have expressed potential interest in signing several of the recently released female performers.

Gigi Dolin is among those who could find new opportunities quickly. She has prior experience with AEW, made appearances for TNA earlier this year, and toured with Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling in 2018. Additionally, Dolin has worked with MLW in the past.

On the management side, Dakota Kai has recently secured new representation, as has Cora Jade (also known as Elayna Black), who is now preparing for her next career move. This will include an OnlyFans account.

WWE NXT talent released last month were subject to 30-day non-compete clauses, which have now expired. In contrast, main roster performers remain under 90-day non-compete agreements.

Separately, both R-Truth and Carlito have reportedly been informed that WWE will not be renewing their contracts. While neither has been officially “released,” their deals are close to expiring — Carlito’s contract ends in two weeks. Once their contracts lapse, they will become free agents. This will happen over the next month, or in Carlito’s case, two weeks from now. There is no non-compete clause when a contract isn’t renewed. Once the contract expires, the talent can begin working for another promotion the following day.
